Potomac ECNL Florida review: Richmond United impress at Sanford event
The D.C., Maryland and Virginia area had several representatives from the Elite Clubs National League at the ECNL Florida showcase event in Sanford, Fla. For all the teams from the Potomac region, it represents their final games until at least February, with everyone having the month of January off from league play.
ECNL Florida: Notable games from an action-packed showcase
The Elite Clubs National League took over 100 teams to Sanford, Fla. for the ECNL Florida showcase event, watched by over 100 college coaches as players from across the country were brought together for the three-day tournament. There were plenty of highlights amidst the games, with a number of individuals also impressing at just the right time for their clubs with the vast majority of their teams on hiatus from league play until at least February.
Tri-State ECNL Florida review: PDA go unbeaten in Sanford
Teams from the Tri State area in the Elite Clubs National League headed south to Sanford, Fla. for the ECNL Florida showcase event to test themselves against other elite girls teams from across the country. With league play now on hiatus until at least February, it was a good opportunity for some morale-boosting performances and results before a break from competitive action.

TSW: New York City area youth soccer player Dominique Cruz has missed more than three years of her high school athletic career since undergoing brain surgery as a 13-year-old. Cruz will make her anticipated return to the pitch on Wednesday as she joins her U-17 club team Brentwood SC Pride 97 at the Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, Florida.

McDonogh School in Owings Mill, Md. have seen another one of their players earn national recognition, as midfielder Bridgette Andrzejewski was named High School Girls Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

TSW: Mixed in with the well-known ECNL and Development Academy member clubs in the Tri-State area is one of the deepest talent pools anywhere in the country, where premier players and teams emerge even from lesser-known clubs. One such team is the East Islip SC Red Storm U15 girls, who recently closed an already remarkable 2014 campaign with a championship at the prestigious Massapequa Winter Showcase.
