La Liga club Real Oviedo SAD grants FC Omega rights to run operations in D.C. area

La Liga club Real Oviedo SAD has expanded its international professional development program in the United States, partnering with FC Omega.

The initial focus will be on women competing in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) in the Washington, D.C. area. The roster will consist of collegiate and elite youth players coached by Aron Bassoff of Blue Mountain College. FC Omega scouts will consider elite amateur players with Academy, ECNL, National League, ODP or High School State/Regional or elite non-traditional women’s league experience. Players that display the level will be further evaluated by FC Omega and submitted to Real Oviedo scouts for possible trial in Spain.

“Players flourish when they compete against high quality competition” said FC Omega communications officer, Kevin Walker. “The WPSL exposes them to what it actually takes to become a professional or exceed in college. We are excited to work with FC Omega and grow the sport including the WPSL #HERGAME initiative. FC Omega has a proven reputation.”

“We are excited to work with this group of young and talented players as we continue to expose them to our methodology,” Walker continued. “We expect them to be able to play alongside our players we select from Spain to play in the United States under FC Omega. We expect those American players selected for FC Omega’s Spanish Academy to be integrated into our Real Oviedo program.”

For the men’s program, FC Omega scouts will monitor and coach children in the foundation phase and youth competing in the various American leagues. FC Omega scouts will report to Oviedo how they develop, and progress and we will decide who is selected to participate in Spain.

Created in 1924, Real Oviedo is one of Spain’s oldest sports organizations. As well as its proud history, the club is renowned for its youth development. Oviedo’s academy has played a role in developing such names as: Juan Mata (Manchester United), Stanley Collymore (Bradford City), Robert Prosinečki (NK Zagreb), and Ukrainian National Team member Andriy Lunin (Real Madrid on loan to Oviedo).

FC Omega is currently seeking female players from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region to compete during the Summer 2022 WPSL season. Tryouts on 1 April from 5:00PM – 6:30PM at Corkran Middle School 7600 Quarterfield Rd, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. Tryouts will also be held Saturday 9 April 10am – 11am will be held at Gaithersburg Elementary School, 2 teachers Way, Gaithersburg, MD 20877. Players may contact Coach Aron Bassoff at [email protected] or contact the club office directly at [email protected] or 866 234-9864.
