OMG! What a Goal! Lionel Messi breaks Gerd Muller’s record with 86th goal against Betis [Video Highlights]
Lionel Messi has broken yet another record. The Barcelona star broke Gerd Müller’s 40-year-old record of 85 goals in a calendar year after scoring two goals against Betis in the first half of a La Liga match-up on Sunday, December 9.
The goal isn’t spectacular, but it is historic nonetheless. Iniesta sets Messi up beautifully with a back heel and just like he has so many times before, Messi calmly slots the ball far post into the back of the bet.
Below is the record-breaking goal, along with a video of all 86 of Messi’s goals in 2012.
