U.S. U-15 Women’s Youth National Team picks up wins over Netherlands and Germany

The U.S. U-15 Women’s Youth National Team secured a pair of wins during their June 2023 trip to Europe, defeating the Netherlands and Germany.

The U.S. team held training camp from June 4-14 in Europe, on a trip highlighted by two friendlies against some of the world’s best international competition. New U.S. U-15 WYNT head coach Ciara Crinion called up 20 players, all born in 2008, for the trip which proved to be a promising debut for her tenure leading the age group.

In their first of two friendlies, the USA simply overpowered the Netherlands in a decisive 7-0 victory. Five different players found the net while the back line held strong for the 80-minute match. After Ashlyn Anderson (17′) scored the lone goal of the first half, the USA poured on six goals in the second half.

Micayla Johnson (42′ and 43′) and Ella Krall (48′ and 62′) each recorded second half braces, while Natalie Chudowsky (60′) and Sierra Dupre (80’+4) got in on the scoring as well.

After the electrifying performance against the Netherlands, the USA showed their ability to win close games in a battle to the finish against Germany. The USA and Germany went scoreless for almost the entire match until Legends FC midfielder Scottie Antonucci provided a late game-winner in the 76th minute.

Defensively, the USA played 160 minutes of shutout action on the trip. Goalkeepers Evan O’Steen and Liesel Tetmeyer split time between the posts, playing behind a stalwart back line which was captained by San Diego Surf‘s Pearl Cecil in the hard-fought 1-0 battle against Germany.

Players on the U.S. roster represented 17 different youth clubs and 13 different states. On Aug. 1 of this year, this age group will transition to the U.S. U-16 WYNT.
