Manhattan College men’s soccer program adds 13 recruits ahead of 2022 season

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Jorden Scott and the Manhattan men’s soccer program have announced 13 signings for the upcoming 2022 season. The 13 join four previously announced additions for this fall.

The group features three goalkeepers, three defenders, three midfielders, and four forwards.

Paul Abbatiello | Christian Brothers Academy | Blackwatch | Albany, N.Y. | Forward

“Paul joins the Manhattan Jaspers from the Cristian Brothers Academy in Albany. He also played at Blackwatch in upstate N.Y. He will bring the quality of playing with his back to goal in either the forward or attacking midfielder role.”

Malick Drame | Belmont Prep | Downtown United SC | Bronx, N.Y. | Left Winger/Left Back

“Malick is a local talent from the Bronx. He played at Downtown United and has had aspirations to play and attend Manhattan College since he started high school. Malick is a left-footed, dynamic wide player who can play as a winger or wing-back.”

Gabriel Espada | East Brunswick HS | Matchfit ECNL | East Brunswick, N.J. | Goalkeeper

“Gabe enters this season as a freshman goalkeeper from New Jersey. He played for Matchfit ECNL before his commitment to Manhattan. Gabe brings great energy and athleticism in front of goal with the will to push himself daily.”

Tyler Hogen | Hamilton HS | Real Salt Lake AZ | Chandler, Ariz. | Right Back

“The boy from Arizona, Tyler Hogen, comes to the Bronx to begin his first year in 2022. He joins the Jaspers from the Real Salt Lake AZ Academy as a right back who can also play center back. He is a player with the tenacity and quality to play on both sides of the ball.”

Yianni Ioannou | Manhasset HS | Barca Academy Pro NY | Manhasset, N.Y. | Midfielder

“Yianni enters his freshman year at Manhattan College from Barca Academy Pro NY. He is a hard-working, dedicated, and ambitious player who operates in the midfield. Yianni enters a young, talented group of midfielders that the Jaspers are returning from 2021.”

Eric King | Scholars Academy | FC Copa Academy | Rockaway Beach, N.Y. | Forward

“Eric enters this season as a freshman. He can play through the middle or off the wing of the front three. A pacey player with great character to the game joins the Jasper family from FC Copa Academy.”

Ryan Langberg | Bergen Catholic HS | Redbulls/TSF MLS Next | Englewood, N.J. | Goalkeeper

“Ryan is a New Jersey native, and just like his incoming teammate, he was at NY Red Bulls before moving to TSF MLS Academy in his U19 season. He will enter a great goalkeeping group with a very good determination to compete and learn every day.”

Jimmy Lema | Mount St Michael HS | Met Oval Academy MLS Next | Bronx, N.Y. | Defender

“Jimmy enters his freshman year at Manhattan College from the home of the Jaspers in the Bronx. He is a Met Oval Academy MLS Next graduate and a local homegrown talent. Jimmy is a defender who can also operate in the defensive midfield role.”

Daniel Polakowski | Ashton on Mersey HS | Manchester United FC | Astley, Greater Manchester, England | Goalkeeper

“Daniel will be entering his freshman year this fall. He has been a coach at one of the best Academies in the world, Carrington, home of Manchester United, and he will bring a level of elite professionalism and ability to compete to start immediately. Daniel’s experience will be a huge asset to the program along with his leadership and character, and he makes us better on day one.”

Stephen Salzburg | St. Francis Prep | NY Hota Bavarians MLS 2 | Queens, N.Y. | Midfielder

“Stephen is a technical and creative midfielder. He played his club football at NY Hota and is another homegrown NYC talent in this recruiting class. He will be entering his freshman year this fall.”

“Ensa is a transfer from Monroe College NR. A quick, dynamic player with a quality left foot is joining the Jaspers this fall, looking to create an impact right away. Ensa brings great character and personality to his play as well.”

Ben Sheeri | Frank McCourt HS | Soccer Stars United | New York, N.Y. | Forward

“Ben is one of many homegrown NYC players in the 2022 Class. With a big homegrown talent class, Ben joins us from Soccer Stars United, where he developed rapidly through the club, and his background of spending time in Europe playing will help him adjust quickly. He is a versatile forward who can play through the middle or in wide areas. He will bring a dynamic presence to the team this season.”

Zachary Vanikiotis | Arlington HS | FC Westchester MLS Next | LaGrangeville, N.Y. | Right Back

“Zac is a technical, versatile, and tough defender. He joins the Jaspers from the FC Westchester MLS Next Academy and can play at either right or left wing back while also being able to operate in a back three. The native from LaGrangeville, N.Y., enters his freshman year this fall.”

Manhattan opens the 2022 season at home against Holy Cross on Thursday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
