ECNL Boys announces launch of West Coast Super Cup program
RICHMOND, Va. – ECNL Boys announced the launch of the inaugural West Coast Super Cup program, with the first-ever matches kicking off later this spring.
Bringing together standout players from each club’s U15-U19 age groups into a U16 team and a U19 team, the ECNL Super Cup creates an exciting and ground-breaking opportunity for additional training, competition and development opportunities for these players. An initial group of twelve clubs will field teams to compete in the West Coast Super Cup this Spring, with opportunity for more to join.
“The launch of the West Coast Super Cup platform marks another step forward for the ECNL and for player development as a whole,” said Jason Kutney, ECNL Boys Commissioner. “The opportunity to layer in a supplemental best vs. best environment that does not pull players away from their age-specific teams and home clubs will not only stimulate the competitive level within the clubs but will also offer a healthy support system amongst clubs with philosophical alignment.”
There are no points, league standings, or post-season qualifications in the 2022 West Coast Super Cup. The platform provides more ways for clubs to challenge players and staff, while also increasing recruitment opportunities for college.
“It is important to provide young players with opportunities to be tested at higher levels of the game without them having to move away from home and family at a young age,” Kutney said. “These clubs have a rich history of advancing players to the collegiate and professional levels, and this platform helps them expand the scope and opportunity they provide for top players. We look forward to doing this in different ways with more clubs in our league.”
Super Cup rosters have players in every age group from U15 to U18/19 to provide different development opportunities to all ages. Rosters are fluid and can change based on performance and development at the club’s discretion, with matches scheduled to avoid overlap with ECNL National Events and other club programming.
