DALLAS, Texas (Via Dallas Cup) – The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup has announced that Manchester United will compete in the elite tournament’s Gordon Jago Super Group.

Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIX will be the second consecutive year for the Red Devils to compete in the Gordon Jago Super Group, and their fifth Super Group appearance overall.

Manchester United hopes to improve upon their 2017 Super Group performance this past spring where they were ousted from the tournament following a 1-1-1 record in the group stage. In 2012, United achieved their best tournament result, reaching the championship match, but falling short to Brazil’s Coritiba. Current Manchester United first-team player, Jesse Lingard, was a key contributor in the 2012 squad.

At both the senior and academy levels, United has excelled over the years, compiling a record 13 Premier League titles, and a record 10 FA Youth Cups. As of last year, Manchester United’s academy ranked first in Premier League minutes played by academy players, as well as player count playing in the top flight. Their success at all levels has lead to enormous popularity and growth over time. In 2017’s list of the world’s most valuable sports teams, Forbes ranked Manchester United as the third most valuable team in world sports at an estimated $3.69 billion.

Manchester United joins a strong Gordon Jago Super Group which so far includes fellow Premier League side Arsenal FC, defending Super Group champion FC Dallas, Liga MX champion Tigres, MLS champion Toronto FC, and Brazilian up-and-comer Red Bull Brasil. Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIX will be held from March 25 through April 1, 2018.
