University of Texas adds midfielder Olivia Ahern to 2022 signing class

AUSTIN, Texas – University of Texas head soccer coach Angela Kelly announced the signing of Olivia Ahern (Midfielder/West Vancouver, British Columbia/Burnaby Central Secondary School/Vancouver Whitecaps Girls Elite REX) to a national letter of intent to join the Longhorns program as a freshman for the 2022-2023 school year.

Ahern joins a standout 2022 signing class that already includes (Top Drawer Soccer National Player Rank/Position/Hometown/High School/Club Soccer Team): Toni Lopez (No. 163/Center Back/Palmetto, Fla./IMG Academy/IMG Academy), Kendall Sproat (No. 185/Goalkeeper/Frisco, Texas/Independence High School/Solar SC), Breana Thompson (Defender/Mesquite, Texas/John Horn High School/Dallas Texans) and Liz Worden (No. 60/Forward/Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King Jr. High School/Legends FC) as well as Baylor transfer Taylor Dellosso (Redshirt Freshman/Defender/Midfielder/Colleyville, Texas/Baylor University/Grapevine High School/Solar SC) and former Penn State midfielder/forward Jilly Shimkin (Freshman (sophomore in 2022)/Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side High School/NYSC & Albertson Fury).

“We are all very excited for the addition of Olivia Ahern to our 2022 signing class,” Kelly said. “Olivia is a very versatile, soccer-minded midfielder that brings a tremendous work rate and tenacity that is always a welcome addition to a squad. We can’t wait to have Olivia on the Forty Acres as part our Texas Soccer family.”

Ahern joins current and former Longhorns Julia GrossoEmma ReganTeni Akindoju & Holly Ward as another product out of the prestigious Vancouver Whitecaps Girls REX Elite program. During her time with the Whitecaps FC, the midfielder served as her squad’s captain from 2020-22 and was selected for the British Columbia Canada Summer Games. She also traveled to England to compete against English Women’s Academy teams at the St. Georges National Training Football Center.

Internationally, Ahern was invited to a 2020 Canadian Under-17 Women’s National Team camp only to have the event cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to her time with the Whitecaps, Ahern was a B.C. Provincial Team Player and the Most Valuable Player for the Mountain United FC of the EA Sports B.C. Soccer Premier League in 2016.
