Three McLean Youth Soccer U-17 ECNL players earn U.S. Women’s National Team training camp callups

A trio of McLean Youth Soccer players from its U17 ECNL team have earned callups to U.S. Women’s National Team training camps in 2011 and 2012.

On May 31, 2012, Marlo Sweatman, midfielder for the U17 ECNL team, was called up by U.S. Women’s National Team U18 coach and women’s technical director April Heinrichs to a training camp in preparation for qualifying for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held in Canada. Sweatman has committed to play for Florida State University starting in Fall 2013.

On June 5, 2012, Morgan Stearns, longtime goalkeeper for the U-17 ECNL team, was called up by U.S. Women’s National Team U-17 coach Albertin Montoya to a training camp in preparation for the U-17 WNT’s World Cup campaign.  Stearns has committed to play for the University of Virginia starting in Fall 2013.

Sweatman and Stearns join teammate Alex Wong, a defender for the U-17 ECNL team, who was called up by Heinrichs to attend two U-18 WNT camps in 2011 – the first from Oct. 23-30 at The Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, California, and the second from Dec. 11-18 in Sunrise, Florida.   Wong has committed to play for Virginia Commonwealth University starting in Fall 2013.

McLean’s U-17 ECNL squad recently returned from competing in the prestigious PDA Girls College Showcase in Zarephath, New Jersey.  By the tournament’s close, McLean Power had clinched the top spot in the ECNL’s Challenge B-Flight and a chance to become the 2012 U-17 B-Flight ECNL National Champions in Waukegan, Ill. at the end of June.
