SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Via US Club Soccer) – Five boys teams representing three clubs from the Mountain Developmental League have qualified for the 2016 NPL Finals after winning their respective age groups during this past weekend’s league playoff event.

The Mountain Developmental League offers both boys and girls competitive programming, but girls teams qualify to the NPL Finals through regular season results. Arizona Arsenal, Blackhawks and New Mexico Rush were the girls clubs that came out on top after the regular season.

On the boys side, Real Colorado was the biggest winner, as the club claimed three age groups (U-13, U-14 and U-16). Rio Rapids SC and Blackhawks SC grabbed the U-15 and U-17 divisions, respectively.

  • U-13: Real Colorado (Colo.)
  • U-14: Real Colorado (Colo.)
  • U-15: Rio Rapids SC (N.M.)
  • U-16: Real Colorado (Colo.)
  • U-17: Blackhawks SC (Ariz.)
  • U-18: Colorado Storm (Colo.)*

*NOTE: The U-18 boys champion is determined through regular season results.

The playoffs are arranged so that the top two teams of each age group from the Arizona/New Mexico division face off against the top two teams of each Colorado division age group. The U-18 boys champion is decided through regular season results, and as such, Colorado Storm ’97 NPL has advanced to the upcoming NPL Finals.

The 2016 NPL Finals, open to U-13 through U-18 boys and girls age groups, will be held July 14-18 at Aurora Sports Park in Aurora, Colo. One of the most prestigious championships in the country, the NPL Finals features the champions of NPLs across the United States. Teams play several group games before advancing to knock-out rounds to determine the NPL national champion in every age group.
