WAGS: First place showdown between Freestate North Red, VYS Patriots Black in U-13 action

By Jimmy LaRoue

The Washington Area Girls Soccer League has a full slate this weekend before it takes next weekend off for the Columbus Day holiday, with many teams taking part in tournaments, including WAGS’s own Real Vodicka Memorial Tournament taking place Oct. 6-8.

In High School Division 1, there’s just one game Saturday, as the 1-0-2 CYA Hotshots 95s (1-0-2) take on ASC Premier Gold (0-3-0) (4 p.m., Westfield HS Stadium), who will be looking for its first win of the season.

The rest of the division is in action Sunday, as first place LMVS Patriots (2-1-0), which lost its first game last weekend to Herndon Curve (1-1-0), will look to rebound against ASC Premier Gold (9 a.m., Franconia Park #4), playing its second game of the weekend. CYA Hotshots 95 also plays twice over the weekend, playing against 1-0-1 Chantilly Revolution 95 Sunday (12 p.m., Oak Marr Park Field #1).

In other Division 1 action, Herndon Freedom (4-0-1) will look to extend its first place league in U-15 Division 1 Sunday against ASC Wolves (0-4-0) (9 a.m., Bles Park #1), who are still looking for its first win of the season.

ASC Arsenal (2-0-0), in U-14 Division 1, has played just two games, while most of its division opponents have played four or five games. It plays Saturday against TSC SIAFU and Sunday against ASA Azzurri, both games taking place at Bles Park #1 (Saturday’s game at 3 p.m., Sunday’s at 11 a.m.).

In U-13 Division 1 action, the only team yet to lose, Freestate North Red (4-0-2) takes on VYS Patriots Black (4-1-0) Sunday at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Day School’s Main Bermuda Field in a showdown for first place. A VYS Patriots win would move it ahead of Freestate over the holiday break.
