After a spate of disappointing results for the U.S. Men’s National Team, U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team and U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team, many fans have begun questioning the decision makers in the U.S. Soccer Federation and have been left wondering just who, exactly, is in charge there?
Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is surely responsible for his side’s recent stumbles, but is it fair to blame him for recent youth national team results in his role as technical director? And just what does a technical director do, anyway?
On this week’s episode of The SoccerWire Show, hosts Tim Froh and Charles Boehm are joined by special guest Wendy Thomas. Thomas, an attorney by trade who also writes about soccer for American Soccer Now and Corner of the Galaxy, recently wrote an informative piece about Klinsmann’s dual roles as head coach and technical director. Thomas laid out all the changes that have been made by USSF since Klinsmann first entered the technical director role in 2013.
On today’s show, we explore Klinsmann’s role and we ask whether all of these changes were really Klinsmann’s decisions to make.
