San José State women’s soccer team welcomes 7 Class of 2024 recruits

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Seven incoming freshmen will join the San José State women’s soccer team for the 2024 season: Payton Hoover, Atianna Fuamatu-Ma’afala, Skylinne Avalos, Charlotte Memoly, Sophia Martel, Lillyana Rodriguez, and Cammy Ventura.

Payton Hoover / Forward / Discovery Bay, Calif. / Liberty High School / West Coast SC

  • Why she chose SJSU: “I chose SJSU because on my first visit there it felt like somewhere I belonged; I loved the family-like culture, coach Tina and everyone else I met. I also love the fact that I am close to home and my family. Plus the new facilities were a great bonus!”

Atianna Fuamatu-Ma’afala / Forward / Oahu, Hawaii / Mililani High School

Skylinne Avalos / Goalkeeper / Davis, Calif. / Davis Senior High School / Pleasanton Rage

  • Served as team captain in her senior year

Charlotte Memoly / Defender / Laguna Hills, Calif. / Santa Margarita High School / So Cal Blues

Sophia Martel / Forward / Soledad, Calif. / Soledad High School

Lillyana Rodriguez / Midfielder / Turlock, Calif. / Pitman High School

  • Four-year varsity starter
  • First-Team All-League all four years
  • Led her team to the CCAL title in her sophomore year
  • Named the CCAL offensive player of the year in her sophomore year
  • Tied the school record for most goals in a season in her junior year
  • Top goal scorer in the league in her junior and senior seasons
  • Why she chose SJSU: “I chose SJSU for its vibrant campus and the welcoming atmosphere it offers. The coaching staff for the women’s team truly stands out to me, and I love the team chemistry and the consistent support among the players.”

She is a standout player coming out of Turlock, leader in scoring for her high school, and is playing on one of the best club teams in her age group. I’m looking forward to her elevating to the next level here at our program.”

Cammy Ventura / Midfielder / San Jose, Calif. / Archbishop Mitty High School / De Anza Force

  • Selected to the Olympic Development Team and travel roster to the West Regional Championships and earned an invite to train with the U17 Philippines National Team
  • Previously played for California Thorns USSDA
  • Played for DeAnza Force ECNL
  • Lettered four years in Varsity Soccer at Archbishop Mitty High School and started as a freshman
