Virginia Tech sophomore Daniel Pereira signs Generation adidas contract
Virginia Tech sophomore midfielder Daniel Pereira (Roanoke, Va.) has signed a Generation adidas contract with Major League Soccer, ahead of the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.
Pereira recently announced the news on social media, as he became the first official member of this year’s Generation adidas class. The Generation adidas offers professional-ready players in the U.S. developmental system not yet eligible for the MLS SuperDraft early entry, allowing MLS to compete with foreign professional clubs without comparable restrictions on player signing.
During his two seasons with the Hokies, Pereira compiled six goals and six assists over the course of 26 games played. This fall, he helped Virginia Tech finish the season ranked No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, posting a 3-1-2 record during the abbreviated campaign.
Widely regarded as one of the top midfielders in all of college soccer, Pereira finished the Fall 2020 season at No. 2 overall in the InStat Index. Only Clemson’s Kimarni Smith (251) finished ahead of Pereira’s 238 score in the comprehensive player rating system.
With his NCAA eligibility now behind him, Pereira will look forward to the MLS SuperDraft on January 21, when he will likely be among the top overall selections.
