Nationals GA and Michigan Hawks players highlight Detroit Mercy recruiting class

DETROIT – University of Detroit Mercy women’s soccer head coach Steve Shelton announced the signing of 10 newcomers for the 2023 season.

The Titans are welcoming the following student-athletes: Samantha Ceballos, Leila Lanier, Grace McCormick, Hailey Matthews, Elena Neceski, Sydney Osgood, Rianna Shrewsberr, Natalia Sobh, Natalie Vance and Chloe Wiggins.

Samantha Ceballos – MF
Hometown: Whittier, Calif.
High School: St. Paul
Previous School: Whittier College
Club Team: Slammers ECNL

Highlights:
• Saw action in 31 games with 10 starts in last two season at Whittier College recording three assists.
• Made the Dean’s List five times.
• Two-time high team MVP and two-time CIF/Santa Fe All-League selection as a sophomore and senior at Whittier HS.
• Lead the team in scoring as a sophomore and tied for the team-lead in scoring during senior campaign.

Leila Lanier – D
Hometown: Rochester Hills, Mich.
High School: Rochester
Club Team: Sporting United

Highlights:
• Two-time team captain as a junior and senior.
• Two-time All-District selection as a sophomore and junior and All-Oakland Activities Association (OAA) Red selection as a junior
• Helped lead Rochester to a conference, district and regional championship.
• Helped lead Sporting United to ECNL-RL National Championship runner-up finish.
• National Honor Society member.

Grace McCormick – GK

• Saw action in 21 games with four starts in three-years at Miami Ohio recording two assists during sophomore campaign.

• 2019 IMECK Conference Offensive Player of the Year, All-State and All-Region selection as a senior.
• Posted 17 goals and 18 assists during senior campaign (2019).
• Helped lead Carolina Rapids to the ECNL U18/U19 National Championship game in Seattle, Wash.

Elena Neceski – MF

• Two-time All-Northern Lakes League (NLL) Second-Team selection (2021, 2022) and Third-Team selection (2020).
• Northwest District selection (2022).
• Helped lead Perrysburg to 2020 district championship and regional semifinal appearance, 2021 and 2022 district semifinals appearance, and 2019 district finals appearance.
• Finished high school career with 20 assists with a season high 10 assists during senior campaign.
• Also helped lead Greater Toledo to 2016 State Cup semifinal and 2017 quarterfinal appearances.

• 2022 and 2023 National Honor Society member.

Sydney Osgood – F
