The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team fell to Japan 3-2 on a sun-splashed afternoon at the U.S. Soccer National Team Training Center, giving up two first half goals only to tie the match in quick succession right after the break. Local product Andi Sullivan scored the first goal for the U.S.

U.S. Soccer invites 64 elite players to National Combine from Aug. 9-13
U.S. Soccer has invited 64 of the country’s elite 15- to 17-year-old players to participate in a National Combine from Aug. 9-13 at Nike’s World Headquarters in Portland, Ore. Five local players have been selected to attend.

U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team rallies to draw Denmark in Milk Cup
The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team capped off the 2013 Northern Ireland Milk Cup with a 1-1 draw against Denmark. Rubio Rubin scored a game-tying goal in the 74th minute as the USA took third place in the tournament.

U.S. Men win CONCACAF Gold Cup with 1-0 victory over Panama in Chicago
The U.S. Men’s National Team defeated Panama 1-0 on a second half goal from substitute Brek Shea to win the championship of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The USA has now pulled to within one title of tying Mexico for most overall Gold Cup championships.

U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team wins the International Tournament in Japan
The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team defeated the Niigata All-Stars 2-0 to win the International Tournament in Niigata, Japan.

U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team to hold camp at Ohio State in preparation for CONCACAF Women’s World Cup qualifying
The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team will come together from July 21-31 for its next training camp to be held at in Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio State University. Local forward Mia Gyau (Bethesda Lions; Silver Springs, Md.) was the only Potomac region player to get the invite.
