University of Kentucky men’s soccer adds pair of new players

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team will include two new faces when play resumes ahead of the spring 2021 season: Saad Faiz and Cyrus Margono.

Both Faiz—a true freshman—and Margono—a redshirt freshman—will be eligible for competition this spring.

Faiz is set to begin his collegiate career out of Casablanca, Morocco, where he competed for Wydad Athletic Club. Donning jersey No. 14, Faiz becomes the eighth midfielder on the Kentucky roster.

Margono transfers to Kentucky from Denver, where he redshirted the 2019 season. Hailing from New York, Margono competed for Sleepy Hollow High School and Metropolitan Oval Academy before his brief stint with the Pioneers.

Wearing No. 24, the 6-foot-2 goalkeeper will compete with redshirt sophomore Ryan Troutman and Conference USA Preseason Team honoree Enrique Facusse between the pipes.

Kentucky returns 21 players from an abbreviated fall 2020 non-conference slate that ended on a five-match winning streak and with a 5-1 record overall. The Wildcats peaked at No. 3 in last fall’s United Soccer Coaches rankings.

Kentucky’s spring 2021 schedule is set to be announced later this week.
