Netherlands routs U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team 5-1

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team fell 5-1 to Netherlands in the both teams’ second match of the 2017 Men’s Nike International Friendlies at the Premier Sports Campus.

Playing a new-look starting 11, the match got off to a rough start for the USA as Netherlands was rewarded an indirect free kick from seven yards out that Mohamed-Atine Ihattaren blasted into the lower right corner just three minutes into the match. Atine Ihattaren found another in the 27thminute, before Kenneth Taylor sent the Dutch side into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

On the other side of the break, Jaymillo Pinas and Bryan Brobbery scored twice more, but the U.S. salvaged something from the match when Alfonso Ocampo Chavez found the back of the net off a feed from Gilbert Fuentes, giving the rising U-17 MNT group its first goal of the new cycle.

The U.S. will look to come back from the defeat when it faces Brazil in its final match of the 2017 Men’s Nike International Friendlies on Sunday, Dec. 1 at Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. The match kicks off at 5 p.m. ET and follows England taking on Netherlands at 1:30 p.m. ET. Both games can be seen live on U.S. Soccer’s Facebook pageYouTube channel and ussoccer.com.

Goal Scoring Rundown

NED – Mohamed Atine Ihattaren (Mohamed Taabouni), 3rd minuteThe U.S. took possession of a misplaced Dutch pass into the box, but Jaymillo Pinas quickly pressed, forcing a play back to Oladapo. Faced with a fast-coming attacker, the ‘keeper took a touch before stumbling and was forced to handle the ball, drawing an indirect free kick for the back pass. Netherlands setup for a free kick seven yards out, and both Ihattaren and Taabouni lined up behind the ball. Facing a straight wall across the goal line, Taabouni tapped the ball to tee-up Ihattaren, who bent it into the back of the net. USA 0,NED 1

 – Mohamed Atine Ihattaren (Steven van der Sloot), 27th minuteSteven van der Sloot threw the ball in to Syb van Ottele close to the near sideline, who collected it, took a touch and played a booming ball into the box. He found Ihattaren rushing in towards the far post, where he hit a well-executed header into the back of the net for his second of the night. USA 0, NED 2

NED – Kenneth Taylor (Mohamed Atine Ihattaren), 32nd minuteKenneth Nielsen knocked the ball out-of-bounds after making a stop for the USA, granting the Netherlands a corner kick. Taabouni played it up the sideline, and a brief back-and-forth exchange saw Ihattaren send a ball into the area, but miss the scrum near the six-yard-box. It bounced out to Taylor, who gathered it, took a few touches and ripped a left-footed blast into the back of the net. USA 0, NED 3

NED  – Jaymillo Pinas (Neryasho Kasanwirjo), 52nd minute: Kasanwirjo played the ball to Pinas from midfield and setup an incredible individual effort. Pinas took the ball, evaded a tackle and worked his way all the way from the right sideline to the far post. There, he sent a booming shot into the top left corner of the net. USA 0, NED 4

NED – Bryan Brobbery (Naoufal Banis), 64th minuteA yellow card called on Kenneth Nielsen in the 73rd minute gave the Netherlands a free kick in dangerous position. Naoufal Banns sent a booming ball into the box, where Bryan Brobbery got loose from the crowd in front of the net. He hit a header that bounced into the net underneath the outstretched arms of substitute goalkeeper Damien Las. USA 0, NED 5

USA – Alfonso Ocampo Chavez (Gilbert Fuentes Perez), 74th minuteWorking for scoring opportunities throughout the match, the U-17 MNT finally broke through in the 74th minute. After the Netherlands came up with a loose ball, Ray Serrano quickly won it back and tapped it to Fuentes Perez on the run up-field. He dribbled past a flank of Dutch defenders and sent a booming ball to Ocampo Chavez near the far top corner of the 18-yard-box. NED – Tein Troost, 17th minuteTaking possession after halting a dangerous Dutch attack, the U.S. offense sent a pass to Dante Sealy with space at the 18-yard-line. He teed-up a shot to the left side, but Troost dove to squash one of the USA’s first attempts on goal.

USA – Kashope Oladapo, 36th minuteAs the USA attempted to build up from the back, the Netherlands stole the ball and quickly turned it back the other way. Taabouni popped it up to Pinas, who had space heading towards the net. He launched a hard shot but Oladapo came out to meet it. Joel van Kaam found the rebound, but the U.S. defense picked it away from him and transitioned back the other way.

NED – Kashope Oladapo, 38th minuteTroost found van Kaam free and on the run, coming in hot up the right wing with no defenders in his lane moving forward. As two U.S. players closed in, he pulled the trigger, trying to slot a shot towards the left side, but Oladapo dove to get his feet on it and popped it out-of-bounds.

NED – Tein Troost, 49th minuteIn the Netherlands half and patiently looking for an opportunity, Mason Judge winnowed his way laterally across the field and played to Gilbert Fuentes Perez near the far sideline. Perez boomed it into the area, finding Diego Lopez inside the six-yard-box. He put a nice header on goal, but Troost made a diving stop to halt it and Gianluca Busio couldn’t control the rebound to put it back on net.
