USSDA Boys East Conference Recap: November 4-5, 2017

U.S. Soccer Development Academy East Conference clubs kicked off their November schedules over the weekend. Continue reading for a rundown of the action in the U-15, U-16/17 and U-18/19 age groups.

U-15

Northeast Division

Division leader Montreal Impact overcame another on of the Northeast’s top sides, BW Gottschee Academy, by a 3-1 scoreline. Montreal’s Mouhamadou Kane paced the attack with a goal in each half, as the Impact snapped a two-game losing skid.

New York City FC split a pair of games on the weekend, falling 2-1 against FC Westchester Armour on Saturday before bouncing back with a 1-0 shutout of Empire United on Sunday. Eligio Guarino netted the only goal of the game for NYCFC while goalkeeper Sebastian Cutler and the back line secured the team’s seventh clean sheet through their first 11 games.

In a cross-division match-up, Atlantic Division side Cedar Stars Academy – Bergen defeated Northeast squad Empire United 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey. Ethan Hong led the Cedar Stars offense with a brace.

New York SC downed Connecticut side Beachside SC by a 3-1 margin, pulling away in the second half as David Penafiel found the net twice in an eight-minute span.

Atlantic Division

First place New York Red Bulls bounced back from their first loss of the season last weekend with a 3-2 road win over PA Classics, highlighted by a two-goal performance by Thomas Tulgar.

D.C. United’s Brian Frenz and Devin Paz provided the scoring in a 2-1 win at home against Virginia Development Academy, as the MLS academy pushed its season-opening unbeaten run to 10.

Another MLS affiliate, Philadelphia Union, swept the competition with a 3-1 win over Baltimore Armour and a 2-1 result against Bethesda SC on a road trip to Maryland. Anges Patrick Kader Bohui led the Union attack with three goals on the weekend, including both scores in the opening 15 minutes on Sunday.

The weekend also saw fourth place PDA defeat Richmond United 3-1 behind a brace from Raold Mitchell, and fifth place Bethesda SC stormed past Continental FC DELCO 6-1, as five different players found the net.

Southeast Division

Georgia side Concorde Fire kept its hold on first place by picking up four of six points, starting the weekend with a dominant 6-2 win over TBU Rowdies before playing Armada FC Pro Academy 2-2 on Sunday. Daniel Ramirez notched a first half hat trick against TBU, finding the net three times in a 14-minute span. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Gyasi and Tyler Vitelli both provided in goal in each game.

Third place Atlanta United also secured four of six available points, shutting out Armada FC Pro Academy 3-0 on Saturday, prior to battling TBU Rowdies to a 3-3 stalemate. Five different players combined to score Atlanta’s six goals on the weekend, as Kobey Stoup led the way with a goal in both games. Atlanta goalkeeper Vicente Reyes notched the clean sheet on Saturday while defender Nigel Prince played the full 80 minutes.

Five players found the net over the course of two games for North Carolina Youth FC, as the team earned four of six points to push its way into Wildcard contention. After building a 3-0 lead by the 48th minute, North Carolina held on for a 3-2 win on Sunday, despite a second half rally by United FA.

NC Fusion picked up their fourth win of the season on Saturday, doubling up United FA 4-2 in a game highlighted a first half brace from Ahmad Al-Qaq.

U-16/17

Northeast Division

Montreal Impact FC padded its division lead with a 2-1 win over BW Gottschee on Sunday, the team’s fifth victory in its last six outings. Georges-Edouard Tissot (32′) and Woobens Pacius (78′) provided the scoring.

In a battle of two of the division’s top three squads, New York City FC blanked FC Westchester Armour 2-0 on Saturday. NYCFC goalkeeper Cameron Farrar notched the clean sheet while defenders Tayvon GrayJoao Victor Souza and Joshua Negrete each played the full 90 minutes.

NYCFC followed up with another shutout victory on Sunday, defeating Empire United 1-0, with goalkeeper Emmanuel Smalios recording the clean sheet in net. Sal Rasizzi‘s 70th minute strike proved to be the game-winner.

Meanwhile, Oakwood SC blanked Seacoast United 1-0 on Saturday, locking down defensively to preserve their lead following a 14th minute strike by Dylan Maxon.

Atlantic Division

New York Red Bulls claimed its 10th straight win to open the season, shutting out PA Classics 3-0 on Sunday. Scott Taylor and Balthazar Saunders scored second half goals as the team also benefited from a PA Classics own goal. Goalkeeper Alex Bobocea recorded the clean sheet in net, as defenders John Michael TolkinHamza Shehata and Christopher Tiao played the full 90 minutes.

D.C. United pushed its winning streak to three games on Saturday evening, shutting out VDA 2-0. Back-to-back goals by Bryang Kayo and Iker Bustamante in the closing minutes of the first half put D.C. on top, and goalkeeper Dane Jacomen recorded the shutout along with United’s back line. Defenders Jack VillatoroJustus Akinlosotu and Michael Gaines played the full 90 for United.

Philadelphia Union collected four of six points on the weekend, blanking Baltimore Armour 1-0 and playing Bethesda SC to a 1-1 draw. Goalkeeper Kristopher Shakes notched the clean sheet against Baltimore, and Axel Picazo scored the game-winner in the 42nd minute.

PDA also earned four of six available points, tying Richmond United 1-1 and edging VDA 3-2.

Southeast Division

Atlanta United improved to 9-2-0 with a 2-0 shutout of Armada FC Pro Academy on Saturday. George Bello and Jackson Conway provided the scoring, while goalkeeper Vincent Florio recorded the clean sheet. Defenders Kendall EdwardsNatnael McDonald and Thomas Toney all played the full 90 minutes.

Concorde Fire pushed its record to 8-2-1 with a 3-1 result against Armada FC Pro Academy. Three different players found the net as Concorde extended its unbeaten streak to six games.

Third place Chargers SC stormed past Orlando City SC 7-0 in a game highlighted by a hat trick from William Shuchart, as well as a clean sheet effort by goalkeeper Jacob Schick and the Chargers back line.

North Carolina Youth FC claimed four of six points over two games, starting with a 3-1 win against in-state foe Charlotte Soccer Academy and closing with a 2-2 draw against United Futbol Academy. Five players netted one goal each for Carolina’s balanced attack over the two games, as they pushed their current unbeaten run to four.

Florida sides Weston FC and Kendall SC each earned two-goal victories on the weekend against in-state opponents. Weston topped Boca United FC 3-1 on Saturday as three different players found the net, and Kendall SC defeated IMG Academy 2-0 on Sunday as goalkeeper Mauricio Uribe notched the clean sheet.

New York City FC recorded back-to-back clean sheet wins, earning a 4-0 result against FC Westchester Armour and a 2-0 victory over Empire United. Kristian Shkreli had a first half brace to lead NYCFC’s attack against Westchester, and Gio Reyna scored a goal in each game for the team’s potent attack. Goalkeeper Johan Penaranda played 180 minutes of shutout soccer behind NYCFC’s strong back line.

FC Greater Boston Bolts overpowered New England Revolution 4-2 behind a Jaren Suttles hat trick on Saturday in an all-Massachusetts contest between a pair of playoff contenders. The win pushed Boston’s current unbeaten run to three games.

Atlantic Division

New York Red Bulls continued their perfect start to the season with a 10th straight win, 1-0 against PA Classics on Sunday. JP Marin‘s 39th minute strike proved to be all New York needed, with goalkeeper Sam Ilin and the Red Bulls defense holding an opponent off the scoreboard for the seventh time this season.

PDA blanked Richmond United 3-0 on the road, utilizing three different goal scorers. PDA defenders Thomas DeVizioAndrew Murray and Stephen Schmitt each played the full 90 minutes in the shutout effort, in front of goalkeepers Boris DelValle and Mateo Green.

Third place Philadelphia Union split a pair of games on the road in Maryland, starting with a 3-0 shutout of Baltimore Armour and closing with a narrow 2-1 loss to Bethesda SC. Tonny Temple netted a goal in each game for the Union to lead the attack.

Bethesda’s Baraka Kiingi found the net in both of the team’s games on the weekend, including Sunday’s win against the Union and a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Continental FC DELCO on Saturday.

Southeast Division

Division leader Weston FC improved to 5-1-1 with a 3-2 victory over Boca United FC. Carlos Dulcey scored two goals in the first 21 minutes of the first half to propel the offense.

Orlando City SC earned a 2-0 win against fellow Florida side Chargers SC, pushing its record to 4-2-2 and notching its first shutout of the season. Igor Martins and Jose Aldaco provided the scoring for Orlando while goalkeeper Aaron Smith notched the clean sheet behind the City back line.

On Sunday, IMG Academy and Kendall SC played to a 2-2 draw. IMG’s Andres Sanchez led the attack with a brace, as Federico Mion and Truman Gelnovatch provided the scoring for Kendall.
