FIFA commits to using goal-line technology in 2014 World Cup
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has finally committed to using goal-line technology at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. After opposing use of this technology for so long, Blatter changed his view after seeing referees miss Frank Lampard’s goal for England denied against Germany in the 2010 World Cup.
Four systems are said to be competing for selection, and FIFA will have a test run at the Confederations Cup in June.
“Interested GLT companies will be invited to join an inspection visit to the Confederations Cup venues, currently scheduled for mid-March, with a final decision due to be confirmed in early April,” FIFA said in a statement.
