16-year-old Efrain Alvarez tallies stunning assist in MLS debut
The LA Galaxy got a glimpse into the future on MLS opening night Saturday, as 16-year-old Efrain Alvarez pulled off a dazzling assist on the same night he became the youngest player to take the field in the history of the club. LA won the game 2-1 over Chicago Fire at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. on Saturday evening.
After coming up through the LA Galaxy Academy, Alvarez played the past two seasons with USL side LA Galaxy II, and at the age of 16 has found his way to the MLS level. The Mexican-American midfielder is considered one of the top prospects in the league, and currently is still undecided on if he will represent the U.S. or Mexico long-term at the international level.
