Texas players dominate Big 12 weekly honors as Trinity Byars shines again

Texas received multiple Big 12 Soccer weekly honors in Trinity Byars (Offensive), Cameron Brooks (Defensive) and Savannah Madden (Goalkeeper), while Baylor’s Reneta Vargas took Freshman of the Week.

Byars assisted on five of Texas’ six goals in victories against Kansas State and Kansas during week eight. Her three assists in Texas’ 4-0 win over K-State is a career-high. She now leads the Conference in goals (11), assists (9) and total points (31). It is her third Offensive Player of the Week nod in the past four weeks.

Brooks is the first Longhorn to receive Defensive Player of the Week recognition since the 2020-21 season. The Round Rock, Texas native claimed her first weekly honor after she scored her first brace and registered two assists in two contests for the Longhorns. She played 152 minutes and helped the back line extend its shutout streak to four consecutive matches.

Madden increased her number of shutouts this season to six after recording two clean sheets during the third week of Conference play. In matches against Kansas State and Kansas, her seven saves helped extend her scoreless streak to four games. The graduate student is tied for third all-time in Texas program history with 23 solo shutouts.

Vargas helped Baylor to a 3-2 win over Kansas in her first game back from injury. The freshman scored the first goal of the game and the game-winning goal that gave the Bears their first Conference win. Her performance during the week included three goals and a total of six points.
