Reigning CAA champion JMU men’s soccer unveils 2021 signing class

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The 2020 Colonial Athletic Association champions look to defend their crown, as James Madison men’s soccer has added four newcomers for the Fall 2021 season, head coach Paul Zazenski announced.

The signing class includes three freshmen and a graduate transfer from the University of Greifswald in Germany.

“We are excited about this small but excellent 2021 recruiting class,” says Zazenski. “It has been an extremely unorthodox recruiting cycle with the pandemic, and we are fortunate in the midst of all the adversity to come away with such a great group of quality people and players. We are happy we could solidify some local Virginia talent as well as an established international from overseas. These players are dedicated and hungry and we are confident that they will represent JMU men’s soccer in the highest possible way both on and off the field.”

Martin Leu
Position: Goalkeeper
Height/Weight: 6’2/200 lbs
Hometown: Greifswald, Germany
Previous Club: Greifswalder FC

Scouting Report: “Martin comes to us as an experienced goalkeeper from the country of Germany. He will be a graduate student for us and adds a unique blend of professionalism and quality into a very talented goalkeeping unit. Martin has a large frame and knows how to manage the moment. We are confident in Martin’s approach both on and off the field and look forward to seeing what he can do come August.”

Sebastian Conlon
Position: Goalkeeper
Height/Weight: 6’2/180 lbs
Hometown: Reston, Va.
Previous Club: Loudon United

Scouting Report: “Sebastian is a DC United product that has consistently been in high level, competitive youth matches. He is a reliable and consistent goalkeeper who doesn’t ever seem to be rattled by adversity. Sebastian is a highly motivated and professional player and person. We think he will fit in well with our culture here at JMU and look forward to seeing him as a Duke!”

Liam Moore
Position: Defender
Height/Weight: 6’0/175 lbs
Hometown: Smithfield, Va.
Previous Club: DC United DA/Loudon United

Scouting Report: “Liam is an outside defender who has played at a very high youth level in the state of Virginia. Liam is athletic in defending situations and smooth on the ball going forward. His movements are fluid and he portrays great energy on both sides of the ball. Having played within the DC United youth set up, we know he has experienced high levels of training and coaching. We are excited to get Liam on campus and have him represent the JMU men’s soccer program.”

Drew Slack
Position: Goalkeeper
Height/Weight: 6’2/165 lbs
Hometown: Midlothian, Va.
Previous Club: Richmond United ECNL

Scouting Report: “Drew is a very solid goalkeeper from Richmond United who has a lot of potential in net. The thing that stood out to us about Drew is his ability to make big saves look easy. He is quick off his line and has great reactions laterally. Each time we watched Drew we became more and more impressed with his abilities, and we are confident he will get better year in and year out.”
