Potomac area preseason tournaments recap: March 4-6, 2016

Preseason tournament season kicked into gear this weekend with a wide range of events in the Potomac area. Continue reading for a listing of the six tournaments that took place throughout the area.

March 4-6 | Fairfax, VA

A total of 360 teams from the U-12 through U-19 age groups competed in the Annandale Premier Cup Boys Weekend in one of the top Northern Virginia youth soccer tournaments of the year. This year’s event included teams representing clubs from 15 U.S. states and Canada, with multiple reigning US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer league, state and even regional champions at various levels. Along with the host state of Virginia, attending teams traveled in from Maryland, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Massachusetts, West Virginia, Illinois, Florida, Colorado and Wisconsin.

March 4-6 | Arlington, VA

This year’s ASIST featured 165 teams from throughout Virginia and Maryland, along with one New York side. Many of the attending teams represented the Club Champions League (CCL), of which Arlington is a member. Attending CCL clubs included BRYC, Lee Mt. Vernon SC, McLean Youth Soccer, Potomac Soccer, Fredericksburg FC, SYA, SOCA, DC Stoddert and Loudoun SC, along with other major Potomac area clubs such as D.C. United Academy, Annandale United FC, Bethesda SC, SAC, FC Virginia, Prince William Courage, the Richmond Strikers and Vienna Youth Soccer, among others.

RESULTS
March 5-6 | Fairfax, VA

Twenty-eight local boys teams competed across seven flights in the U-13 through High School age groups this weekend in the first leg of the FPYC Liberty Cup Invitational at field locations around Fairfax. Participating clubs included host Fairfax Police Youth Club (FPYC), BRYC Elite, Montclair Soccer Club, Springfield South County Youth Club (SYC), Vienna Youth Soccer, Chantilly Youth Association, Loudoun SC, Chantilly SC, Southwestern Youth Association (SYA), Stafford Soccer, Gunston SC, McLean Youth Soccer, Burke Athletic Club and Old Dominion FC, all from the Northern Virginia area.

March 4-6 | Loudoun County, VA

A wide range of coaches from college programs throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and up-and-down the East Coast were on hand for the Loudoun Soccer College Showcase, which ran from March 4-6 in Loudoun County. Clubs from around Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Illinois, Connecticut, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio were represented among the 120 boys and girls teams in attendance.

March 5-6 | McLean, VA

Providing preseason competition for younger girls teams ranging from the U-9 to U-12 age groups, the McLean Premier Soccer Tournament Girls Weekend ran from March 5-6 at Lewinsville Park, Police Field and SpringHill Rec Center in McLean. The event featured 75 teams from throughout Northern Virginia and Maryland.

Ultimate CupUltimate Cup – Boys Weekend
RESULTS | College Coaches
March 5-6 | Richmond, VA

One of the region’s largest tournaments played this weekend, the Ultimate Cup played host to more than 200 boys teams from the U-9 to U-19 levels. Games were played across 23 turf fields and 15 natural grass fields around the greater Richmond area. Along with the majority of the attending teams traveling in from throughout Virginia, others came in from Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New York. The Ultimate Cup is co-hosted by Chesterfield United and the Richmond Kickers, providing a college showcase format for the U-15 through U-19 age groups and a standard division format for the younger ages.
