No. 17 UConn women’s soccer falls 3-0 to No. 1 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Via University of Connecticut) – The No. 17 UConn women’s soccer team was shutout 3-0 by No. 1 Florida State on the road Thursday at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
UConn drops to 5-2 overall this season heading into their Sunday match-up against Stony Brook. The top-ranked Seminoles improve to 4-1 after their home opener.
The Seminoles controlled the majority of the first half, outshooting the Huskies 8-2 in first 45 minutes. It appeared the match would remain scoreless going into the break, but Florida State claimed a late first half lead, netting a goal in the 44th minute.
Coming out of halftime, UConn trailed Florida State, 1-0. The Seminoles came out on the attack, registering a shot on goal just three minutes into the second frame, but UConn goalkeeper Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.) came up big with the save. Armstrong finished the match with three saves.
Florida State took a commanding 3-0 lead with back-to-back goals in the 66th and 69th minutes, but UConn fought until the very end.
Senior trio Maddie Damm (North Kingstown, R.I.), Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) and Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) each recorded a shot in the last 10 minutes of the match, but the Huskies could not find the back of the net.
The Huskies return to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 11 when they host Stony Brook at 2 p.m.
