Gatorade Player of the Year signs with the University of Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island women’s soccer head coach Megan Jessee announced the addition of Faith Hutchins to the spring roster.

“I am really excited to add Faith to the Rhody women’s soccer program this spring,” said Jessee. “It’s always nice to have great local talent.” Hutchins, a South Kingstown, R.I. native, has played with the club team Rams F.C. for the last three years.

A two-time captain as a goalkeeper at South Kingstown High School, Hutchins led the Rebels to the Rhode Island state championship title in 2019-20. “I chose the University of Rhode Island because of the location and being right in my hometown,” said Hutchins. “I feel more at home every time I step on campus. Most importantly, I feel that I will have the ability to learn and grow not just as a student- athlete, but as a person.” Named the 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year, Hutchins earned All-Division and All-State honors all four years of high school and was a United Soccer Coaches All-American.

Hutchins is the first Ram announced in the signing class. “Faith is an extremely athletic goalkeeper with a lot of potential,” added Jessee. “She will compete for playing time right away.”

Rhode Island’s spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
