Full Results from the 2022 NWSL Draft
The NWSL Draft was held on Saturday, Dec. 19 ahead of the 2022 National Women’s Soccer League season.
A total of 50 players were selected over the course of four rounds. Stanford’s Naomi Girma was selected No. 1 overall by expansion club San Diego Wave. Girma, who was named U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year in 2020, is a defender/midfielder who is regarded as a strong prospect in the U.S. Women’s National Team player pool.
Florida State midfielder Jaelin Howell, another highly-touted USWNT prospect, was selected No. 2 overall by Racing Louisville FC. Howell recently won her second College Cup title with the Seminoles.
Virginia Tech midfielder Emily Gray went No. 3 to the North Carolina Courage, while USC midfielder Savannah DeMelo (Racing Louisville) and UCLA forward Mia Fishel (Orlando Pride) rounded out the top five.
