Cal South Soccer issues statement on postponement of high school season

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has moved the Fall 2020 Soccer Season into Winter and Spring of 2021. This action will affect all high schools in California, as well as other sports.

Cal South Technical Director Steve Hoffman has been in frequent contact with Chris Fahey, CIF’s Director of Corporate Sponsorships and soccer.

Hoffman issued the following statement regarding the decision to postpone high school soccer, as it relates to Cal South’s club soccer activities:

“We all knew this was coming in light of the current pandemic. The announcement will not affect club Soccer in California, which includes the 2021 Cal South National and State Cup competitions. Per the announcement, CIF will have a temporary suspension of Bylaws 600-605 (Outside Competition) due to the need to move sports to non-traditional times of the 2020-2021 school year. Accordingly, students will be allowed to participate in an outside team at the same time they participate on their high school team. As per CIF Article 23, local schools, school districts, leagues, and Sections may develop a more restrictive rule than the CIF State Office concerning the aforementioned Bylaws.”

The announced new start date for high school soccer would be February 27, 2021, with a prospective league completion date of May 6. The CIF Championships will take place from May 28-29, with the state final scheduled for June 5.
