After being tied 1-1 after regulation, the Girls-Under-18 State Open Cup final on June 1 at Stringham Park in LaGrange went into overtime. Quickstrike Xtreme ‘96s of the East Hudson Youth Soccer League (EHYSL) defeated the HBC Silent Thunder of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL), 3-2, for the championship in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA).

With the World Cup being hosted by Brazil, the most nation with the most successful on-field history in the competition, it should be a time for celebration. The tournament brings out the world's best players in a month-long tournament and a chance for the Brazilians to win a sixth World Cup, this time on home soil. While the 2014 edition will be known for the play on the pitch and the nation that eventually lifts the trophy, it may very well be equally known for the social unrest.

Despite Maryland State Cup final defeat, Baltimore Celtic hopeful of future success
The Maryland Under-18 State Cup final on May 31 brought together two of the state’s powerhouse youth teams as Olney Rangers faced Baltimore Celtic at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, Maryland. Baltimore Celtic overcame Bayshore Soccer Club, Bethesda Revolution and SAC Pre-Academy in the previous rounds of the State Cup without conceding a goal, a run that took them to the final game and a shot at the 2014 US Youth Soccer Region I Championships. Rangers would come out on top by a final score of 2-1, and Celtic head coach Brandon Quaranta was quick to praise Olney and their coach Matthew Pilkington after their fifth straight State Cup victory.

Olney Rangers have once again translated their dominance of the Maryland youth soccer scene as they defeated Baltimore Celtic 2-1 in the final of the Under-18 Maryland State Cup on Saturday, May 31 at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, Maryland.
