Brown University men’s soccer adds 11 student-athletes to roster

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Friends of Brown University Men’s Soccer Head Coaching Chair Patrick Laughlin has announced the addition of 11 new student-athletes, set to join the roster in the fall of 2020.

Brown’s latest incoming class is composed of six midfielders, three defenders, one forward, and one goalie from ten different states.

“We are very excited about this group coming to College Hill,” Laughlin said. “We wanted to bring in an athletic and physical group with a lot of strong personalities and leadership in the class and feel like we have done that. Eager is an understatement, we can’t wait to start integrating this group into the team this Fall.”

Charlie Adams

Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Norwich, VT
High School: Hanover High School
Club: Global Premier Soccer New Hampshire

  • High school and club team captain
  • United Soccer Coaches All-American (2019) and All-State All-American (2019), High School All-American game participant (2019), two-time All-New England (2018-2019), and three-time First Team All-State (2017-2019)
  • Hanover High School record holder for career points (118), goals (64), and assists (54)
  • United Soccer Coaches New Hampshire Player of the Year (2019)

Coach Laughlin on Adams: Charlie is an attacking player that we feel can score goals as well as provide scoring opportunities for others. He is an excellent leader and competitor. We were fortunate to get to know Charlie early in the process and feel his best soccer is yet to come. We are excited to see his transition on College Hill.

Noah Atanda

Position: Defender

Coach Laughlin on Atanda: Noah has been on our radar for a while. He has impressive physical qualities and is also a very good passer out of the back. He has shown to be a very consistent player with his time at DC United and Bethesda SC. Noah will be a great addition to Brown Men’s Soccer.

Tanner Barry

Coach Laughlin on Barry: Tanner is a left-sided player with a very good range of passing. He impressed us with his performance during our camp and when we watched him play for NCFC in the Development Academy. Tanner has stepped up to every challenge we have put before him and we expect him to continue that when he arrives on College Hill this Fall.

Coach Laughlin on Carlson: After attending one of our summer camps, Cian is a player that we really liked in the recruiting process. He is a big, physical center back who has a good understanding of the game. He is another player coming to Brown out of a program we’ve a lot of recent success with, the Madison 56ers. We feel he has the mental and physical qualities to compete here at Brown. We are very excited to have Cian a part of the program.

Coach Laughlin on Cloherty: Jack is a winner and a strong character. Jack’s ability to connect passes in transition, his competitive nature, and his energy to play box to box are going to make him an outstanding college soccer player. We are looking forward to him joining us in August.

Coach Laughlin on Dadzie: Kojo is very impressive both on and off the field. He has a strong personality and has been an active leader amongst his class. On the field, he is very quick, balanced and aggressive in the attack. We feel he can play wide on either side of the field. Looking forward to having him represent BMS.

Eliot Hamill

Position: Goalkeeper

Coach Laughlin on Hamill: Eliot was high on our recruiting list coming out of high school and we are excited to have him transfer to Brown after competing for two years at Duke University. He is a great shot stopper, very quick, agile, and commands his box very well. He is hungry to play and will create an even more competitive goalkeeping core. We are thrilled to have him join in the Fall.

William Hassett

Coach Laughlin on Hassett: Will is a local player that we know extremely well from his time at Bruno United and the Moses Brown School. He made a big jump as a player last summer and really impressed us with his desire to be a part of the men’s soccer program. Will can play throughout the midfield and does a great job of reading the game and exploiting opponents. Will is going to be a really good addition to Brown Men’s Soccer.

Coach Laughlin on Kina: Taha is an outstanding leader, competitor and personality. We have been able to watch Taha develop into one of the top center backs on the East Coast. He has shown that he is capable of defending in 1v1 situations, passing from the back and driving his team forward. We are very excited to have Taha join us this Fall.

Coach Laughlin on Pillar: Levi has been an important part of a very good team over the last few years. He is able to play both wide and centrally in the attack. Levi is very comfortable on the ball and can play well in 1v1 situations. Levi should fit in really well with our team and create competition amongst the attacking group. We are looking forward to Levi joining in the Fall.

Evan Posnanski

Coach Laughlin on Posnanski: We saw Evan late in the recruiting process and then really went after him aggressively. He was available late due to missing some of the recruiting cycle while injured. He is dynamic and strikes the ball very well, is dangerous in isolation, and can play in a few different spots. Evan has the ability to be an immediate attacking threat in the Ivy League. We are ecstatic to be able to have him join Brown Men’s Soccer.
