What made you decide to verbally commit to the University of Kansas?
I decided to commit to the University of Kansas because of the impeccable coaching staff. From the first time I visited Lawrence, I loved the environment, the coaching staff, the team culture, and how much the coaches cared about developing me as a goalkeeper and as a person. I could really see myself growing there and being pushed to reach my full potential. Most importantly, I felt like Kansas was a place where I truly felt at home, Rock Chalk!!
What was the recruiting process like and what did you learn about yourself while going through it?
The recruiting process was a truly exciting experience. There were many conversations with coaches at visits, showcases, camps, and moments where I had to be patient and trust the process. As a goalkeeper, I’ve learned that communication and confidence are really important, and I found that those qualities helped me throughout the recruiting process. I learned a lot about what I wanted in a college and what type of environment would help me continue to grow. I also learned that it’s important to stay true to yourself and not get caught up in what everyone else is doing. The process helped me become more confident in who I am as both a player and a person.
How do you feel your strengths on the field will help the Jayhawks?
I think one of my biggest strengths as a goalkeeper is my leadership, especially my ability to communicate and organize my teammates in front of me. I take a lot of pride in being vocal, staying composed under pressure, and being someone my teammates can trust. Some other strong qualities are my bravery, shot-stopping ability, decision-making, distribution, and ability to read the game will help me contribute to the Jayhawks. Playing at the ECNL and U.S. Youth National Team levels has challenged me to make decisions quickly and stay focused in high-pressure situations.
What are your favorite subjects in school and what do you think you would like to study in college?
I’ve always enjoyed math because I like being challenged and figuring out problems that require me to think differently. I’m also interested in Spanish and enjoy being able to communicate in another language and learn about different cultures. When I am in college I would like to study business to later pursue sports marketing.
You’ve received numerous call-ups to the U.S. Women’s Youth National Teams over the years – What has that experience been like for you?
Being called into the U.S. Women’s Youth National Teams has been an incredible experience and something I’m extremely grateful for. Having the opportunity to represent my country and compete alongside some of the best players my age has pushed me to become a better goalkeeper. I’ve been able to train with different players, learn from high-level coaches, and experience what it takes to compete at an international level. Traveling with the national team, including experiences in Spain and England, were especially memorable. Those experiences have taught me to be adaptable, confident, and prepared for every opportunity. They’ve also shown me how much more I want to continue improving everyday.
What are your favorite pair of cleats that you have ever owned?
My favorite cleats that I’ve ever owned are the Adidas Copas. I love how they feel, especially as a goalkeeper. They give me a good combination of comfort and control, Three stripe life!!!!!
If you could give one piece of advice to a younger player that wants to play at a high level, what would it be?
My biggest piece of advice would be to trust yourself and enjoy the process. There are going to be times when things don’t go exactly how you want them to, but every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow. As a goalkeeper, you have to have a short memory (like a goldfish), because mistakes are going to happen, and you have to be ready for the next play. I would also tell younger players to stay consistent, work hard when nobody is watching, and don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Keep believing in yourself, stay coachable, and take advantage of every opportunity you’re given.
Is there anyone that you would like to give a shoutout to who has helped you both on and off of the field?
I would definitely want to give a huge shoutout to my family, especially my parents, for always supporting me and believing in me. They have made so many sacrifices to help me pursue my goals and have been there for me through all the practices, games, showcases, travel, camps, and everything in between. I’m also incredibly thankful for all of my coaches, teammates, and goalkeeper coaches who have challenged me and helped me grow. My experiences with the ECNL and the U.S. Youth National Teams have introduced me to so many people who have helped shape me as a player. I wouldn’t be where I am today without everyone who has believed in me and supported me along the way.
