SoccerWire is publishing Q&A articles with players who have Featured Profiles in the SoccerWire Recruiting Directory. The series allows players to share their stories on the college recruiting process, playing the game at the international level, travel and high school soccer, and their passion for the beautiful game.

In this edition we will showcase midfielder Liliana Rubio, who plays for MVLA SC in the ECNL, and has verbally committed to play NCAA Division I soccer for San Diego State in 2028.

What made you decide to verbally commit to San Diego State?

What really made me decide to verbally commit to San Diego State was the coaching staff. I absolutely loved the coaches and could tell that they genuinely cared about their players as people, not just as numbers. On top of that, all the girls were so welcoming and nice, which made SDSU feel like the right fit for me.

How do you feel your strengths on the field will help the Aztecs?

I feel like I’ll bring an attacking presence to the Aztecs, along with the ability to help circulate the ball and connect play on the field.

What are your favorite subjects in school and what do you think you would like to study in college?

My favorite subjects in school are history, and I plan to study business at SDSU.

What has your experience been like playing for Lamorinda SC in the Girls Academy, and now for MVLA SC in the ECNL?

My experience at LAMO has been amazing. Mo has always been one of my biggest supporters and has played a huge role in helping me become the player I am today. My experience with MVLA has also been incredible. All the girls are super nice, and Esteban is an amazing coach who has helped me grow so much as a player. I can already feel myself improving, and I’m really grateful for both experiences and everything they’ve taught me.

What are your favorite pair of cleats that you have ever owned?

My favorite pair of cleats I’ve ever owned has to be the Nike Mercurial Vapor 13 Elite FG in Laser Crimson.

If you could give one piece of advice to a younger player that wants to play at a high level, what would it be?

My biggest piece of advice would be to never be afraid to put yourself out there and take on a challenge, even when it feels scary or uncomfortable. Sometimes, the biggest opportunities for growth come from stepping outside your comfort zone, and those decisions can benefit you so much in the long run.

Is there anyone that you would like to give a shoutout to who has helped you both on and off of the field?

I would give a huge shoutout to my Dad. He has coached me since I first started playing soccer and has always been my biggest supporter, both on and off the field. He has helped me so much throughout the recruiting process and has played a huge role in shaping me not only as a player, but also as a person. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his support, guidance, and belief in me.
