Watch: President Obama congratulates USWNT after World Cup win
The White House has released a rare look into a presidential phone call to a winning sports team with the release of the following video record of his Monday morning wake-up call to the U.S. Women’s National Team following their historic World Cup win over Japan on Sunday.
In the video President Obama jokes with the team about taking the suspense out of the game by scoring so many goals so early, noting that when he turned on to watch only 10 minutes in, they were already well ahead. He then asked hat-trick hero and World Cup Golden Ball winner Carli Lloyd what she was eating, and that he wanted to do what she was doing.
The, after ribbing the U.S. Men’s National Team for not getting the TV ratings they were able to achieve, he all but made a future White House visit invitation official by offering an invitation over the phone, saying he can’t wait to meet them.
Watch @POTUS call the @USSoccer_WNT to congratulate them on their World Cup victory. #OneNationOneTeam
