Chapter 61: ACADEMICS – ROOKIE: Surviving Your Freshman Year of College Soccer

Strikers Logo

The day will come when college is over and you’re going to want (check that… need) a job. The problem is that it can be very difficult to get an interview because you don’t have any experience; but how can you ever get experience when no one will give you a job? It’s the hamster wheel that college grads have been spinning since the beginning of time. But since you want to eat and pay your rent and put gas in your car, you have no choice but to keep grinding. You keep sending out resumes and knocking on doors until one day, you strike potential gold!

You find a firm that is willing to let you get your foot in the door with an interview. The leadership of this firm is pretty open-minded about giving college kids with no experience a chance to come aboard and learn as they go, but they’re not willing to hire just anyone. They want an office full of the best and the brightest! They understand that you’re too young to have any actual real-world experience, so they’re going to judge you on the one body of work you do have, and it’s called your GPA. And at that moment, you’ll either be thankful that you focused on your academics or regretful that you did not.

I hope that is all the reason you need to remember that your academics actually are important, and it starts in your freshman year.
