WAGS: LMVS Patriots clinches first place in High School Division 1

By Jimmy LaRoue

Much of the fall 2012 Washington Area Girls Soccer League season finished up Sunday, with a smattering of games across divisions slated for this coming weekend to conclude fall play.

In U-13 Division 1, Freestate North Red (6-1-3, 21 pts.) closed out its season with a 3-0 win over Lee-Mount Vernon SC Patriots Red at Franconia Park, clinching third place. VYS Patriots Black (8-1-1, 25 pts.) has already clinched the division title, while SAC United Premier (7-2-1, 22 pts.) has clinched second. One match in the division remains, with SYC Storm White (5-2-2, 15 pts.) taking on ASC Elite 99 (1-7-1, 4 pts.) on Sunday. The top nine places in the division are set, with only the bottom two unsettled.

In the lone U-14 Division 1 game last Sunday, Reston United 98 defeated VYS Thunder Gold 3-0. The win for Reston United 98 moves them into fifth place with one match to play. While the top three places for the fall season are secure–ASA Azzurri has clinched first place with one match remaining against Reston–a few places are left to be settled.

In U-15 Division 1, Herndon Freedom (9-0-1, 28 pts.) closed out a strong season with a 1-0 win over FSC Xtreme (5-4-1, 16 pts.). Just one division game remains–Maryland Rush Nike 97G (4-4-1, 13 pts.) vs. CSC Patuxent Swarm (3-4-2, 11 pts.). A win for Rush would put them in a second place tie, while a CSC Patuxent Swarm win would give it third place in the final standings.

In High School Division 1, Lee-Mount Verson SC Patriots (5-2-1, 16 pts.) clinched first place in the division with a 1-1 tie against NVSC Jr. Majestics 94 (3-1-3, 12 pts.). Herndon Curve (5-3-0, 15 pts.) picked up a 2-0 win over Chantilly Revolution 95 (4-2-2, 14 pts.) to take second place, while the Revolution fell to third place–and potentially fourth place, depending on the outcome of the final game of the season between Majestics and ASC Premier Gold (0-6-1, 1 pt.).
