USYNT goalkeeper Malia Zillman reclassifies to Class of 2026, signs with Iowa Hawkeyes
IOWA CITY, Iowa – U.S. Youth National Team roster pool goalkeeper Malia Zillman has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa women’s soccer program, it was announced by head coach Dave DiIanni.
“Malia is someone that stood out in many ways as a goalkeeper and person in the class of 2027, and we are very excited to add her a year earlier”, said assistant coach J.P Valadares. “Her personality and presence is noticed in any short conversation, and not only to have that, but also display it when you are in goal is special. She also brings U.S. national team experience which speaks loud about her potential. We can’t wait to have her with our goalkeeper unit.”
The Madison, WI native attended Waunakee High School, where she reclassified to join the class of 2026 (previously class of 2027). On the club side with Rockford Raptors FC, she earned ECNL All-Conference, was named the ECNL Conference Cup Golden Glove winner, and was named to the ECNL Conference Cup Best 11. She was previously a US Youth Soccer ODP National Selection, and recently signed with FC Madison, a United Soccer League One club located in Madison.
“I decided to be a Hawkeye because they have an amazing academic program to help me further my education,” Zillman said. “I am also super excited about playing for the Hawkeyes. Everyone is so talented and hardworking on the team, and they have an even better staff to support it. The University of Iowa is the perfect place for me to further my education and develop as a soccer player.”
Zillman competed on the U.S. Olympic Development Program for two years. She earned multiple U.S. Youth National Team call ups (Spain, Netherlands). Zillman was coached by Andy Moil in high school, and her club coach was Michael James Rizzo. In her free time, she served as a youth goalkeeper coach.
