Clinched Berth in Semifinals: McLean 00 Green, Arlington United Red

Reigning Region I champion McLean 00 Boys Green faces Arlington United Red in a battle of unbeatens on Saturday. Both teams have already qualified for the semifinals, but will play for the No. 1 seed in Flight A.

In Flight B, the top two sides will also square off on Saturday but with even higher stakes. SOCA Elite and 2014 State Cup finalist Loudoun 00 Red will play at Evergreen Sportsplex in a ‘win and advance’ situation for both sides. A draw would open the door for FPYC Fury, which could enter into a three-way tie with SOCA and Loudoun with a win over Alexandria Red Stars. If the 11 a.m. SOCA-Loudoun match does not end in a tie, FPYC simply needs to win its 5 p.m. match against Alexandria to earn a trip to the semifinals. If  FPYC ties or loses against Alexandria, both SOCA and Loudoun will advance regardless of their outcomes on Saturday.

Clinched Berth in Semifinals: Arlington Eagles Red

Three of the four U-16 semifinal berths remain open heading into the weekend, with five teams still vying for those bids. In Flight A, Reigning state champion and Region I semifinalist Arlington Eagles Red is locked into one slot with wins in its first two group games, six goals scored and none allowed. Virginia Legacy CCL Elite has earned four points through two games, and can take the No. 1 seed from Arlington with a win in their head-to-head match-up on Saturday or clinch the No. 2 seed in Flight A with a draw.

Loudoun 99 Red, BRYC 99 Elite and Beach FC 99 Red are in close contention entering the weekend in Flight B. Loudoun and Beach FC go head-to-head at 1 p.m. at Evergreen SportsPlex, a home match for Loudoun, while BRYC takes on SYA Cardinals Red at 2 p.m. on one of its home fields at Robinson High School. A win for any of the three teams at the top of the table in Flight B means a guaranteed trip to Fredericksburg next weekend for the semifinals.

Clinched Berth in Semifinals: Virginia Legacy CCL Elite

Only one squad, Virginia Legacy CCL Elite, is through to the next round while five teams remain in contention for the other three spots. Loudoun 98 Red can overtake the top seed in Flight A with a win over Virginia Legacy on Saturday afternoon at Evergreen SportsPlex, and would secure the No. 2 seed with a tie. Loudoun finished as semifinalists in the State Cup, Region I Championships and US Youth Soccer National Championships last season. Herndon Rovers East could take the No. 2 spot in Flight A with a win over SYC Strikers Blue and a Loudoun loss, depending on tiebreakers.

SOCA Elite, BRYC 98 Elite and Arlington Attack Red are all within one point of each other entering the weekend in Flight B. Reigning state champion Arlington hosts SOCA at Yorktown High School on Saturday at 4 p.m. needing a win to guarantee advancement, while SOCA only needs a draw. Returning finalist BRYC can secure its place in the next round with a win at home over Roanoke Star Elite.

Clinched Berth in Semifinals: Virginia Rush Elite

If Saturday’s match-up in Hampton Roads between Virginia Rush Elite and Barca 97 Elite produces a winner, that team will take the No. 1 seed for Flight A in next weekend’s semifinal round. However, the stakes loom larger for Barca, which could lose its hold on the No. 2 seed if it falls to Rush on Saturday and Loudoun is able to beat Arlington in lopsided fashion.

Flight B is wide open as three teams – SOCA Elite, Virginia Legacy CCL Elite and SYA Strikers Red – compete for two semifinal spots. SYA travels to Albermarle for a match-up with host SOCA, while Roanoke Star heads to Williamsburg to play on Legacy’s home field at Warhill Sports Complex. SOCA, Legacy and SYA are all in win-and-in scenarios.
