FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team defeated Canada 3-1 in two friendlies at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In the first match, the U.S. started its trio of goals in the 23rd minute with George Acosta tallying. U.S. midfielder Chris Goslin jumped on the board in the 49th minute thanks to an assist by Acosta. In the 60th minute, Andrew Carleton finished the scoring run for the USA.

As the clock ran down, it looked as if the USA would blank Canada, but the northern neighbor was able to narrow the score line with a goal from Jonathan David with just a minute left in the match, ending the game 3-1.

The second match ended with the same victors and the same score. However, Canada struck first when Terique Mohammed put a ball past U.S. goalkeeper Alex Budnik in the 21st minute. Carleton was quick to equalize for the U.S. off a penalty kick to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1.

The USA took the lead when Carleton assisted Ayomide Akinola in the 75th minute. Akinola put the game to rest seconds before the final whistle, finishing his brace with the help of Josh Sargent.

The U-17s will now look ahead toward a four-team tournament in Gao, India between May 11-27.
