TV ratings for U.S. Women’s match stand toe to toe with USA Basketball
The U.S. Women’s National Team drew a peak viewership of 3.35 million for the broadcast of their 3-0 win over Colombia last Saturday, a number slightly higher than that earned by LeBron James and the rest of the USA Basketball squad when they defeated France the following day.
It wasn’t a total ratings victory for women’s soccer, as the basketball game averaged a higher number of viewers. But the comparable statistics for the two events highlights the depth of interest and fan support the USWNT has gained as they chase a third straight Olympic gold medal.
The U.S. Women continue their quest for gold with a quarterfinal match against New Zealand in Newcastle, England on Friday morning (9:30 a.m. ET, broadcast on NBC Sports Network, NBC Soccer Channel, online at NBC Live Extra).
