LA Galaxy II signs 16-year-old USYNT midfielder Victor Valdez
LOS ANGELES – LA Galaxy II announced today that the club has signed midfielder and LA Galaxy Academy product Victor Valdez.
The 16-year-old made his professional debut last year in the USL Championship with LA Galaxy II, earning nine appearances total. He is a member of the U.S. Youth National Team player pool, most recently appearing at the U-17 level.
“Victor is a talented and creative player that performed well in our Academy,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “We are pleased he will continue to grow within our development system. We look forward to his contributions and to his continued development within our club.”
Valdez made his professional debut for LA Galaxy II last year, appearing in nine games with one start in the USL Championship while still a member of the LA Galaxy Academy. He has represented the LA Galaxy Academy since 2018, where he has accumulated nearly 50 appearances for the Galaxy U-15, U-16/17 and U-18/19 squads. At the international level, Valdez has been named to various U.S. Youth National Team rosters, most recently representing the U.S. U-17 Boys’ National Team.
Before joining the LA Galaxy Academy, the Santa Ana product began his youth career playing with Irvine’s Strikers FC U-12, U-13, U-14 and U-15 squads between 2016 and 2018.
LA Galaxy began preseason training on February 15 ahead of the start of the 2021 USL Championship regular season. The 2021 season will mark the eighth year in LA Galaxy II history.
The 2021 USL Championship regular season will begin in May and will see the teams split in to four divisions containing a 32-game slate running across 27 weeks through the end of October with playoffs scheduled for November.
Further announcements on scheduling and playoff structure will be made in the coming months. The league will continue to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in the event that alterations to the format need to be made.
