Garden City Inferno burns Plainedge Red Phoenix 3-0 to win U-11 Girls Arch Capital Group Cup
(ENYYSA / Randy Vogt) – The Garden City Inferno shut out the defending Arch Capital Group Cup champs, Plainedge Red Phoenix, 3-0, in the Girls-Under-11 Arch Capital Group Cup final. This championship game between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams was played at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview on June 13.
Kylie Brunning, Carla Curth and Samantha Mejia scored Garden City’s goals to give them this Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) title. Keeper Aly Jeffrey recorded the shutout in goal.
“The difference in the final was the clear communication between all our players,” explained Garden City coach Kristi Jeffrey. “We came out firing from the opening kick-off. A total team effort!”
Garden City also received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award for the Fair Play they demonstrated on the field. Now retired, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.
