(Via D.C. United) – D.C. United have hired Daniel Kirwan as the head of sport performance for the youth academy. Kirwan will work with young United athletes to develop supplemental training schedules, strength and conditioning workouts and physical/tactical periodization schedules throughout the levels of the academy.

“We’re excited to add Daniel as the head of sports performance with the academy,” Ryan Martin, academy director, said. “His experience with the first team will help to continue the vertical integration between the youth academy and first team while continuing to help improve and develop our athletes for the next level.”

Kirwan began his career as an undergraduate student assistant strength and conditioning coach for Clemson University’s football team (2011-2015), helping in the development of 24 current NFL players.

In March of 2015 he transitioned to an internship with the Black-and-Red first team as a physical preparation and performance analysis coach. Kirwan also trains local high school athletes (soccer, swimming, lacrosse and football) as an xxplosive performance coach at Bethesda Sport and Health.
