Chicago Red Stars to face Washington Spirit in 2021 NWSL Championship

CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars will face off against the Washington Spirit in the 2021 NWSL Championship, set for noon ET on Saturday, November 20 at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky.

The match will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network and stream live on Paramount+ and internationally outside the U.S. on the NWSL’s Twitch channel. Both Washington and Chicago will look to earn their first league title.

Washington advances to the championship for the first time since 2016 with a 2-1 win over OL Reign at Cheney Stadium on Sunday, November 14. With the opening Spirit goal in their semifinal match, 19-year-old Trinity Rodman became the youngest playoff goal scorer in league history. Chicago forward Katie Johnson and midfielder Sarah Woldmoe scored their first career playoff goals in the Red Stars 2-0 victory over the top-ranked Portland Thorns FC to advance to the team’s second consecutive NWSL Championship.

This will be the first time in league history that the championship match will feature Chicago and Washington and the first time that neither the #1 nor #2 seed have reached the league final.

Play-by-play announcer Jenn Hildreth will be joined by two-time Olympic gold medalist Aly Wagner in the broadcasting booth and Marisa Pilla and Lori Lindsey will team up as sideline reporters for the final.
