Bellmore Icicles freeze the Smithtown Ambush to win U-10 Girls Arch Capital Group Cup
(ENYYSA / Randy Vogt) – In a final between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams, the Bellmore Icicles shut out the Smithtown Ambush, 2-0, to take the Girls-Under-10 Arch Capital Group Cup. The big game was played on June 13 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.
Emma Hoestein and Mikaele Powder scored Bellmore’s goals while keeper Mia McElwee recorded the shutout in goal.
“It was our best performance all year but a very even game. Smithtown has a very good team,” commented Bellmore coach Matt McElwee. “Our defenders – Jessica Banta, Kaitlin Flannery, Lauren Misciagna and Rowan Perrotta – played unbelievable!”
Smithtown received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award for the Fair Play they demonstrated on the field. Now retired, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.
