West Islip Alliance wins shootout to take U-10 Boys Arch Capital Group Cup

(ENYYSA / Randy Vogt) – After regulation and two overtimes remained scoreless, the West Islip Alliance topped Smithtown Explosion, 4-2, in the shootout to win the Boys-Under-10 Arch Capital Group Cup. This Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) final between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams was played on June 13 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.

Michael Boyle, Jack Trovato, Alex de Vries and Zach Siano scored in the shootout for West Islip while Lenny Marsakos and Anthony Fabris hit the net for Smithtown.

“I thought Smithtown played very well and had the better of play in the first half,” commented West Islip coach Rick de Vries. “We did well in the second half. We’re going to have other great games against Smithtown in the future.”

Smithtown coach Louis Batista added, “Both teams played very hard and it was a pleasure watching both teams play.”

Smithtown received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award for the Fair Play they demonstrated on the field. Now retired, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.
