Baylor University signs 9 women’s soccer recruits for the class of 2020

WACO, Texas – The Baylor soccer squad added nine to the 2020 recruiting class, announced by head coach Paul Jobson.

The Bears brought in a strong class of exceptional student-athletes from across the country that will take the pitch in the fall of 2020.

When it’s all said and done this will be one of the biggest recruiting classes we have had at Baylor,” Jobson said. “It will also be one of the most talented. We are excited to welcome this group to the Baylor family!”

Mackenzie Anthony
Forward, Wheaton, Ill., Wheaton North High School, Sockers (Palatine, Ill.)

Mackenzie Anthony signs with Baylor out of Wheaton, Ill. and Wheaton North High School. She played club for the Sockers under David Richardson.

One of the most touted recruits to come out of the US Soccer Development Academy, Anthony is ranked in the top 10 nationally in goals scored and goals per game.

The forward comes from an athletic family as her parents lettered at Wheaton College (dad, David, in soccer and mom, Holly, in tennis). Her older brothers, Luke and Brayden, are also student-athletes at Wheaton.

Anthony is a member of student council, as well as the Gold Honor Roll and Spanish Honor Society.

Mackenzie Davis
Midfielder, Highlands Ranch, Colo., ThunderRidge High School, Real Colorado

Mackenzie Davis signs with the Bears from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and ThunderRidge High School. She played club with nationally ranked, Real Colorado, coached by Russ Lentine.

Taylor Dellosso
Midfielder/Defender, Grapevine, Texas, Grapevine High School, Solar SC (Dallas)

Taylor Dellosso signs with the Bears out of Grapevine, Texas and Grapevine High School. She played club for the Solar SC organization out of Dallas, the 2016 ECNL Nationals runner-up, under the direction of Ben Williams.

Dellosso has earned all-district and honorable mention all-state honors. She was named the district’s Utility MVP in 2017-18, and was the district’s Newcomer of the Year in 2016-17. Dellosso led her squad to a pair of district championships and a state runner-up finish in 2017-18.

Off the field, Dellosso was inducted into the National Honor Society and the Ambassador program.

Arianna Ghafari
Forward, Katy, Texas, Seven Lakes High School, Albion Hurricanes (Houston)

Arianna Ghafari signs with the Bears from Katy, Texas and Seven Lakes High School. She played club with the Albion Hurricanes out of Houston under coach Rafa Brazo.

Ghafari received District MVP honors in 2019 in addition to being an All-Region selection.

Off the field, Ghafari was inducted into the National Honor Society and earned Academic All-District honors.

Sarah Hornyak
Midfielder, Southlake, Texas, Southlake Carroll High School, Solar ECNL (Dallas)

Sarah Hornyak signs with the Bears from Southlake, Texas and Southlake Carroll High. She played club with the Solar ECNL out of Dallas under coach Charles Grado. Hornyak’s high school squad captured the 2019 Class 6A state title.

Off the field, Hornyak was involved with Younglife, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Charity League, and was inducted into the National Honor Society.

Chloe Japic
Midfielder, Palo Alto, California, Palo Alto Senior High School, CA Thorns Soccer Club DA (Santa Clara)

Chloe Japic signs with the Bears from Palo Alto, California and Palo Alto Senior High School. She played club with the CA Thorns Soccer Club under coach Lloyd Grist. Japic is also member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina U15, U17 and U19 National Teams.

After being named the league’s Freshman of the Year in 2017 and the All-League Player Award a year later where she led her team in scoring, Japic’s 2018-19 CA Thorns squad finished second in the league and ranked No. 16 in the DA playoffs.

Off the field, Japic was awarded Presidents Gold Award Foreign Language and volunteered with the National Charity League.

Brooklyn Kouns
Midfielder, Klein, Texas, Klein High School, Challenge ECNL (Houston)

Brooklyn Kouns signs with Baylor from Klein, Texas and Klein High School. She played club for Challenge ECNL under coach Pat O’Toole.

Kouns has racked up the awards for her high school team with Offensive MVP, Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-District honors. She helped lead her squad to district and area championships in 2016-17.

Kouns is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. She also serves on student council as well as a Klein High Ambassador.

Gabby Mueller
Midfielder, Macomb, Mich., Dakota High School, Michigan Hawks SC (Livonia)

Gabby Mueller signs with the Bears from Macomb, Mich. and Dakota High School. She played club for Michigan Hawks SC out of Livonia under Doug Landefeld, where they won the 2017 ECNL National Championship.

Off the field, Mueller has been on her school’s honor roll for four years and was inducted into the National Honor Society. She has volunteered at youth summer camps and elementary schools in addition to serving as a tutor throughout her time in high school.

Lauren Traywick
Goalkeeper, Austin, Texas, Round Rock High School, Lonestar DA (Austin)

Lauren Traywick signs with Baylor out of Austin, Texas and Round Rock High School. She played club for Lonestar DA under Sophia Mundy.

The First Team All-State honoree helped lead her team to the regional finals in 2019 and has been named her district’s MVP in goal in 2017 and 2019.

Off the field, Traywick is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
