Alianza Peru U-14 Boys claim Arch Capital Group Cup title
(ENYYSA / Randy Vogt) – The Boys-Under-14 Arch Capital Group Cup final on June 13 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview went to overtime and was decided in a shootout between two teams from Queens. Alianza Peru of the Big Apple Youth Soccer League (BAYSL) tied Eleftheria Spartans of the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL), 1-1, after regulation and two overtimes but Alianza became the Kings of Queens by virtue of their 4-1 shootout win.
In regulation, “Tata” Luiz Daldes scored for Alianza and Mario Konnaris had the goal for Eleftheria. Daldes, Steven Trujillo, Keni Guiterrez and keeper Yanko Bravo converted the penalty kicks for Alianza.
“Our team played hard and played well,” said Alianza coach Rene Torres. “Eleftheria was outstanding too.”
Alianza also received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award for the Fair Play they demonstrated on the field. Now retired, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.
