(Via Alexandria SA) – The 2018 Virginia Youth Soccer League (VYSA) Recreational Coach of the Year is Alexandria Soccer Association’s Greg Rice.

Rice has been a part of the club in multiple volunteer roles over the past several years—from age group coordinator to recreational coach. He was nominated for the award because of his exceptional dedication to serving the ASA community and growing the love of the game.

Rice currently coaches a U14 boys recreational team, of which the core players have been together for three plus years. The team has transitioned from ASA’s in-club league and now competes in the Suburban Friendship League (SFL). Taking the team to the next progression of recreational soccer allows the group to take part in home and away games versus clubs in the Northern Virginia region.

Peter Kallin, ASA’s Recreational League Director said, “It has been a pleasure working with Greg over the past few years. I admire the support he gives to the team and his commitment to making sure each player is supported on and off the field. Coordinating rides, picking up jerseys and more—all of that goes well above and beyond the expectations we set for our volunteers. This is what makes Greg (and so many of our other coaches!) such huge assets for the community’s largest youth league.”
