Akron women’s soccer program signs defender Anya Donelan

AKRON, Ohio (Via University of Akron) – Noreen Herlihy, the head coach of The University of Akron women’s soccer program, announced the addition of Anya Donelan to the incoming freshman class for the upcoming 2019 campaign.

With the addition of Donelan, the Zips now have four newcomers joining the Akron program in the fall, including Bailee Bowers (Dublin, Ohio), Emily Clopp (Canonsburg, Pa.), and Rielyn Hamilton (Burlington, Ky.).

Donelan, a native of Warrington Cheshire, England, most recently competed at the junior college level at Monroe College (2017-19) in New York. As a defender for the Mustangs, Donelan scored two goals and tallied eight assists in her career.

In her sophomore season (2018), Donelan and Monroe College went undefeated in 2018 and captured the 2018 National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Championship.

On top of being a National Champion with the Mustangs, Donelan was also named to the All-NJCAA Academic First Team and earned president list honors for her success in the classroom.

During her youth soccer days, Donelan competed for the Stoke City Girls of Excellence U15-U17 teams, before taking her talents to Preston North End Women FC (2015-16) and Fylde Ladies FC (2016-17).

Donelan is the daughter of Graham Donelan and Lyn Smith and has two sisters, Becca and Erin.
