Kent State soccer team adds 12 recruits ahead of Fall 2021 season

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State soccer program has added 12 athletes to its roster ahead of the 2021 season, head coach Rob Marinaro announced.

Alisa Arthur (Miamisburg, Ohio), Grace Barresi (St. Charles, Illinois), Tori Copfer (Avon Lake, Ohio), Carlie Filkouski (Aurora, Ohio), Carley Goldberg (Solon, Ohio), Heidi Marshall (San Diego, Calif.), Anna Memija (Saddle Brook, N.J.), Devin Schoenberger (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Joey Skillen (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Cadence Smyth (Newmarket, Ontario), Siena Stambolich (Kleinburg, Ontario), and Caroline Wroblewski (Gibsonia, Pa.) will join the Golden Flashes in the fall.

“We are very excited to have this class join us and help build an extremely competitive environment,” Marinaro said. “They join a wonderful group that is returning and together we want to build a strong, united, and gritty team ready to make its way back to the top of the MAC where this program belongs.”

Alisa Arthur
Miamisburg, Ohio – Miamisburg High School
Ohio Elite ECNL – Midfielder

A proven threat in the attack, Arthur is the single season goals scored and single season points total record holder at Miamisburg High School. In her two years at Miamisburg, she is a two-time Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) National League first team selection, a one-time GWOC All-Conference selection, a one-time Miami Valley first team selection, and a one-time Offensive Player of the Year winner. Arthur played her club soccer with Ohio Elite’s ECNL program, with whom she earned an invite to the ECNL’s Player Development Program in 2018. She was also selected to the 2019 ODP South State Pool.

Grace Barresi
St. Charles, Illinois – Saint Charles High School
Campton United – Defender (Centerback)

A four year varsity player at center back, Barresi was a captain for Saint Charles High School and is a two-time academic all-conference selection. Barresi also played club soccer for Campton United, and will pursue a degree in biology at Kent State.

Tori Copfer
Avon Lake, Ohio – Avon Lake High School
Cleveland Force – Defender/Forward

An outside back by trade, Copfer is more than capable of joining the attack as a winger and has proven that in her time at Avon Lake High School and with Cleveland Force, as she scored 23 goals and provided seven assists in high school en route to earning numerous honors as a senior including Southwestern Conference (SWC) MVP and Lorain County Player of the Year. She was also earned selections to the All-SWC first team, All-Lorain County first team, Lorain County Senior All Star team, All-Greater Cleveland first team, and was a second team All-Ohioan. Copfer will pursue a degree in business management while with the Flashes.

Carlie Filkouski
Aurora, Ohio – Aurora High School
Cleveland Ambassadors – Forward

A product of nearby Aurora, Filkouski earned First Team All-Suburban League and First Team All-District honors as a senior after scoring 11 goals and providing four assists for the Lady Greenmen. She also earned Honorable Mention All-Suburban League recognition as a freshman at the high school level. She played her club soccer for Cleveland Ambassadors, and will pursue a degree in exercise physiology at Kent State.

Carley Goldberg
Solon, Ohio – Solon High School
Cleveland Force – Forward

A four-year letter winner and two-year captain at Solon High School, Goldberg is a two-time first team All-Greater Cleveland Conference selection at the high school level. She scored six goals in the 2020 season to bring her high school career to a close. She has played her club soccer for Cleveland Force and will be pursuing a degree in business management with a minor in sports management.

Heidi Marshall
San Diego, California – Linfield Christian School
San Diego Force Academy – Goalkeeper

A proven leader inside the 18, Marshall is a three-time captain for Linfield Christian School and has captained her age group at San Diego Force Academy for nine years. With her club, she won the 2019 Goalkeeper of the Year award. At the high school level, she has averaged 50 saves per season and has a career goals-against average of .882 per game. A native of San Diego, Marshall will pursue a degree in communications.

Anna Memija
Saddle Brook, New Jersey – Saddle Brook High School
Nutley Elite Soccer Academy – Forward

Memija is a forward from Saddle Brook, New Jersey and is a player with a knack for scoring goals. In her three years as a varsity player for Saddle Brook High School, she scored an average of 17.7 goals per season, including 21 as a senior. Not content to just be a goal scorer, so also averaged 10 assists per season. She has earned All-State and All-Group honors. She played club soccer for Nutley Elite Soccer Academy and earned her first international cap on November 27, 2020 when she appeared as a 92nd minute substitute for Albania in a 4-0 win over Cyprus in UEFA Women’s Euro Qualification. Memija will pursue a degree in nursing while at Kent State.

Devin Schoenberger
Redondo Beach, California – Redondo Union High School
Beach FC – Forward/Midfielder

From just outside Los Angeles in Redondo Beach, Schoenberger is an attacking player that has proven she knows how to win championships. For Redondo Union High School, she led them to the Bay League Championship while earning an academic letter award. For her club Beach FC, she was a member of the 2018 United State Youth Soccer National Championship winning team before playing 2019 and 2020 in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Schoenberger will be studying health sciences.

Joey Skillen
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Avonworth High School
Beadling – Defender

Playing in the heart of the defense, Skillen is a three-time All-Section selection and one-time All-WPIAL selection at center back. The product of Avonworth High School and Beadling Soccer Club, she is also a former Rookie of the Year award winner and a Defender of the Year award winner while leading Avonworth to the WPIAL playoff final as a senior.

Cadence Smyth
Newmarket, Ontario – Newmarket High School
Aurora Football Club – Midfielder

Smyth has played her club soccer at Aurora Football Club as part of their high performance pathway. Playing in the midfield, she has been selected to the Ontario provincial team beginning with the U15 age group in 2018, where she led them to a Ontario London Games bronze medal. She served as a captain of the Ontario Provincial Team in 2019.

Siena Stambolich
Kleinburg, Ontario – Bill Crothers Secondary School
Ontario REX – Midfielder

Originally a member of the 2020 signing class, Stambolich played for Vaughan SC OPDL 02 team during her club time. She was also a member of the Ontario REX Super Centre for the past two years, which provides top youth talents with a centralized, daily training environment that supports Canada’s elite female youth players through advanced curriculum, for the past two years. She was selected for the Ontario Provincial Team at the U14, U15 and U16 levels.

Caroline Wroblewski
Gibsonia, Pennsylvania – Mars Area High School
Northern Steel/Century Steel – Forward

A four-time All-Section forward, Wroblewski scored 74 goals and 72 assists in her four years at Mars Area High School and captained her team to two Pennsylvania State Championships in 2019 and 2020. In addition to her All-Section honors, she is a two-time All-WPIAL selection and was named All-State as a senior. Playing her club soccer with Northern Steel/Century Steel, she won the State Cup in 2018. Wroblewski will be majoring in English and pursuing a minor in pre-law while at Kent State.
